The Wyoming Lions Club made the following decisions:
1. Because the Braille Challenge was canceled due to lack of participation, it was agreed to donate the $50 to youth programming at ABVI.
2. The Rockford Club sells hams. A motion was made and seconded to sell hams. The Rockford Club would get the hams for us and give us $5 on each ham we sold. Motion defeated. It was felt that the hams were not big enough. Families could not afford to purchase two hams.
3. The Wyoming Senior Center has their own casino trips so did not want us advertising our trips at the Wyoming Senior Center. Our trip is March 14. We need the bus full.
Our speaker tonight was Roy Clark from Mentor 1. He spoke about how he started his non-profit organization. He shared stories of some of the people who his organization has helped.
After his presentation a discussion about the casino trip and fund raising came up. Mr. Clark offered to help get us into West Gate Lanes for a Texas Hold 'Em Tournament (four sessions per year). He said that we could easily make $2,000 a session. He proposed that we get the license; he would get us in and anything above the $2,000 we make we would give his organization for getting us in. This was referred to the Fund raising Committee.
The Fund Raising Committee had a short meeting at the conclusion of our meeting:
1. The possibility of doing a fundraiser at Steak & Shake was discussed. Dawn will get more information.
2. We are planning a White Cane fundraiser on the last Friday in May and first Saturday in May. The plan right now is to use Family Fair and Tommy Brann's. We can sell mints or something else at Big Top later. Everyone was asked to look at the merchandise on the Lions of Michigan web site. The link is www.lionsofmi.com.
The idea of doing a craft show or flee market where the club would sell tables was discussed. Mona will look into this.
4. Roy Clark's idea was discussed. We need to work on getting the license and we also need to talk further with Roy about his suggestion. Concern was raised whether we would have enough people to do the shifts.
People are supposed to bring reports back to the club for the second meeting in February. The first meeting is our "Significant Others" Night.
Want to take a trip to the Casino? Contact us now for the trip in March. Bus seats are available.
